Ernestoliveslifeinalimboofsorts,stucksomewherebetweenthepromiseofanexitvisaandthefearofrottingawayinHavana.Buthissmooth-talkingschemestosecurepapersarecomplicatedwhenhecrossespathswithAnita,andisfacedwiththeonlyincentivetostayinCuba—love.ScreenwriterAlejandroBruguésmakeshisdirectorialdebutwiththispoignantromanceaboutthepriceoffreedom,thepowerofsacrificeandthemeaningofhappiness.AlejandroBrugueswasborninBuenosAires,butheisaCubannational.AfterstudyingAdvertising,PsychologyandPhilosophy,hegraduatedwithaScreenwritingmajorfromtheEscueladeSanAntoniodelosBanos.Aftertakinghisfirststepsasascreenwriter,hedirectedandwrotethisfirstwork,whichreceivedawardsattheCineenConstrucciónsectionoftheGuadalajaraFilmFestival.PersonalbelongingsisalovestorythattakesontheeverydayrealityofCuba:Ernestokeepshis"personalbelongings"inabriefcase,waitingforthemomentwhenhewillfinallybeabletoleavetheisland;meanwhileAnahasdecidedtostayandnotgowithherparents,whofledonaraft.Thetwoyoungstersmeetwhenhegoestothepoliclinicwheresheworks,andalthoughbyfallinginlovetheyeachfindwhattheywerelookingforineachother,theyalsoknowtheyhavedecidedonverydifferentpathsandatsomepointthey’llhavetomakeafinalchoice.
